@jessisnacorn 1 year ago I was in a college english class where at a certain point the topic of supernatural belief came up. And we were asked who here would go to fortune teller to look for missing family members if all other options were exhausted. This related to an identical situation in some book we were reading. Half the women raised their hands; only 1 or 2 men did.

this kind of technique that they are using is called the placebo effect (pla-see-bo). Its well known to medical reserches. it's when you give someone (for e.g.) a pill that they thing is a drug, and they react as if it is. if you tell sick people you're giving them a new, powerful drug and they'll get better- even if the pills are only aspirin.
