Now we have that LED backlighting but it's not that great. It's of course better than EDGE LED but it can't compete with plasma tvs. And they are extremely expensive. I can get a plasma TV for less than half the price of LED backlight LCD. I mean come on.

I guess this is a good place to start if you don't know anything about TVs, but there is a ton of information that is not mentioned here. Refresh rate for example is not as big of a deal as many advertisements would have you believe. Most sources run at 30 frames per second, and on a 60hz display, each frame is displayed twice. On a 120hz display, each frame is displayed four times. Of course there are technologies that take advantage of the refresh rate, look it up.

@j0rdanimal ...burn in is a non issue with newer plasma. You'd have to leave the screen on pause for many hours to get a ghost. (I play lots of COD. mini map is up constantly. I've had no problems) And even then, just watch tv for a few hours and it will go away. To get permanant burn in, a person whould have to be trying to make that happen with some unusually cruel abuse.

Plasma on it's way out the door...? Will be fully replaced by led technology...?
Ya. sure pal. Pay twice the price for a display with inferior picture reproduction. Last year, I bought a 40" samsung lcd 60 hz 1080p for $750. Motion resolution sucked. High speed games were virtually unplayable.Took it back to trade up to the 120hz model...FOR $300 MORE! instead went to panny plasma 42" 600hz 1080p for $50 less. I couldn't be happier. Color is rich. High speed motion is no problem.

You can spot the difference between native 720p and 1080p even on a 22 inch monitor as far as im concerned. i had native 19 inch monitor 720p and switched over to 22 inch 1080p and the aliasing disappeared, also the textures were much more rich and overall the graphics seemed improved.
But only applies for native. if the image is upscaled then no difference is really noticed which is why newegg made that mistake of saying get 1080p if you need bigger than 32 inch.
