Testing the IF DSP functionality of an Icom IC-7000 radio. I have the AGC fast setting set to 0.1s with the noise blanker on to minimize spikes affecting the AGC.

First I turned the noise reduction on which is also variable but I find the default setting (4) sufficient. Signals close to the noise floor are unintelligible if the noise reduction is turned up too high. Then I turn on the notch filter and move it around until I find the range of the interference. There are settings for notch bandwidth and a second notch filter for a second filter.

I'm really satisfied with this radio and I think it's well worth the price. The IF DSPs really do make a huge difference in being able to pull weak signals out.

  • You actually compare only 40 AM channels to dozens of HF, VHF, UHF, SHF band allocations with millions of frequencies and modes like AM, FM, SSB, CW, Packet, IRLP, APRS, RTTY, AMTOR, PSK, Amateur TV, D-star, Satellites as well as groups that work with Red Cross, Salvation Army, Military Affiliated Radio Service, Emergency Management agancies in every state and Internationally.

  • only one thing to say to all this how many hams started on 11 and still work 11 when theres a lift LOTS, in the uk we have done away with logging each call and morse code, some of the people who passed using this thought they were gods gift to radio! in the end isnt radio about frienship across all the bands? i am sick of seeing ham haters and cb haters grow up for god sake.

  • Hello, nice video.

How long was the cable connecting transceiver withe the panel?

I'm going to buy this radio. My plan is - to have all equipment on the cock-loft, but main panel downstairs in my bedroom. In this case I would need to have cable about 7-8 meters long and I'm wondering if it is not too long...

  • Love my IC-7000! Anyone who says the IF DSP doesn't work is an ass and crazy. You can set two different settings to combat two different sources also. Love that feature!
