Paul McGowan tells us how to get high definition audio onto and out of a computer. He explains what it is, what you'll hear and how to take advantage of the new high definition audio formats just getting popular. Paul's easy to understand style takes a lot of the mystery out of learning.

  • Great thing about Computer Audio today is not that it is audiophile grae. But it is a great entry to good audio. My most simple/cheap set up is just my Mac Mini toslink straight into my Yamaha AVR at 24bit/96k. Main thing is having a decent DAC to feed a classc set of bookshelf speakers. That setup is stupid cheap yet can sound better way better than RedBook. Just wish there we're more 24bit music downloads.

  • Hi Mr. Paul! i'd like to know if, not long time ago, when we heard analog LPs, that was the most crystal clear sound we could get? ( comparable to today's digital HD sound ? )

  • Better if you watch with a great classical track in the background. xD

  • @vegasfolk Of course not. Audiophiles don't think it's important particularly if they "hear" clear & obvious differences. They cannot begin to fathom why it would be necessary to take that extra step and often feel personally insulted by the mere suggestion of it. I find them to be utterly fascinating creatures in so many ways.

  • Another words what You are saying Is 20 year old Analog equipment Sounds better than modern day force fed digital stuff, that Is why the old VHS HIFI had so much dynamic headroom Not to mention warmth.

  • Vegasfolk: Maybe they can bring there own CD's to listen to... LOL
