  • It's a funny old world. These wonderful vehicles were ecologically sound long before anybody thought of saving the planet. I'm guessing that if it were now there would have been no plan to decimate the London trolleybus fleet. Sadly, back then our trolleybuses were made in the UK. If we plan to run them again they will be made far away. Funny old world

  • @oldsyphilitic Spot on. Some of us did fight 50 years ago against the authorities who were in love with diesel power on the basis that it was bad for the environment and relied on imported fuel from unstable parts of the world, after all we had just recovered from the Suez crisis.

    Leeds want to bring trolleybuses back but its going to cost £200m for German buses running on two routes!

  • Last thing, does anybody else notice the 1930s look STILL designed into that American-manufactured tow truck?

  • Astonishing, seeing that Edmonton trolley in the museum's collection, and even more so is the museum's photo of its destination board reading 'Parkalien' on their Website!

  • I was very young when they got rid of these great looking buses. I have snippets of memory regarding riding on them to Hampton Court and the depot at Isleworth. There is a video showing this old depot here {{ watch?v=D1IoPWmFJ14 }}

  • @A60stock A teenager in the 60s, I was one of those fighting. I was pleased when I heard of plans for trolleys in Leeds, but I was outraged it should be Leeds and not Bradford because we had kept faith far longer than Leeds. Back in the 80s WY Metro announced plans for trolleys in Bradford and Leeds and I know that they had checked out the underground feeders from the original installation and found them to be good.

    Don't think we'll see them in my lifetime. We're too parsimonious.

  • Nice to see a real London trolleybus complete with 'crab claws' on the roof. 1812 is nice, but I remember the pre war versions much better.
