The last few days have been quite productive both for LoM's actual development and in getting a few other important things working.

In the last video I demonstrated that Props, special map objects that are generally static (e.g., they don't move around) and can cause collision were able to be added. Since then I've updated the built-in map editor to insert and save those Props.

So the first visible change is the map's toolbar buttons. I thought that the small 16x16 graphics were too small so I changed them to 24x24 icons. Much better if you ask me.

You can also see that some of the buttons start off grayed out and when enabled become saturated. New feature of the OpenGL/SDL Renderers. :)

Moving along, I play with the tile palette for a few seconds and then go straight for the Prop Palette. You can see that we can insert props where the mouse pointer is. We can also select and delete props that are on the map.

Also new is the ability to scroll the map quickly by holding down the right mouse button and dragging. Very convenient for getting around fast.

That's it for now!

The Legend of Mazzeroth is a 2D open-source RPG/MMORPG project that's been in development since February of 2008. Originally based on The Mana World, LoM dumped that code base and started a new code base, entitled New Age, in September of 2008. I decided once there was enough material to record to video I would chronicle the development of LoM by recording short clips of each test phase.

  • @0Buzzard Thanks for the comment. The built-in editor is inspired by Age of Empires, one of my all-time favorite games. :)

Actually the editor has progressed a bunch since this video. Should have a new upload soon-ish.

  • Very nice, kinda remindes me of Age of Empires
