Its legit, there was a special edition DVD released some years back that included this in the extras.

The Earl Mac Rauch novelization mentions this incident and event has Buckaroo watching the footage by himself late at night, so I believe this is legit.

Yeah, the Hanoi business would have made more sense had they ever made the sequel.

I had no idea this was a scrapped opening until I watched the movie on TV - for some reason the version I have includes this instead of the opening text.

I still like this opening better though, maybe because I'm more used to it, but true the Hanoi guy doesn't make sense.

Hanoi Xan. Not Hanoi Shane. That makes him sound like some sort of rubbish drug dealer.

It's the scrapped part ..... they had " others " that were scrapped throughout the movie but this was the intro they left out ..... Jamie still looked HOTT as his mom ..... : )

It must be authentic. I remember reading in STARLOG magazine when the movie came out that there was an alternate opening that had Jamie Lee Curtis as Buckaroo's mom and that this parents were both killed in an accident. The business about sabotage by this villain "Hanoi Shane" would have confused the plot, since he doesn't appear in the movie.

I really, really wish they had done a whole slew of BB adventures like they had originally meant to.

I LOVE this film. If that really was the original opening (and it looks authentic to me) and I glad they went with what they did. Thanks for posting! It is an interesting aspect to a brilliant film.
