This scene is from Alameda's Altarena Playhouse production of "The Foreigner", featuring Timothy Beagley and directed by Richard Robert Bunker. Charley Baker, "the Foreigner" is actually an Englishman pretending to be from an unknown country. In this scene, he is asked to tell a story in his "native language" to the residents of a small rural Georgia town; however, he himself has never heard of his 'pretend' language...until he begins to tell his made up story.

  • I played "Ellard" 20 years ago and am currently playing "Charlie". This is such a difficult scene to get right. I hope I can do it as well as this "Charlie"!

  • I saw this in my hometown several years ago--didn't expect to love it as much as I did. This is such an amazing play.

  • Fantastic!

  • my high school just did this, and charlie did it just like that!!!! and he was soooooo good! i love this clip because it makes me crack up no matter what mood im in. great job! :)

  • I majored in technical theatre at USF many moons ago, and in Stage Management, The Foreigner was the play that we had to do all the arrangement on. I've only read the script; I've never actually seen the play. But I do remember, even on paper, it was fantastic. Thanks for posting this and making me realize that the real thing enormously exceeds expectations.
