No Place Like Home

He made a promise to his own.

'I will bring you Hope and I will give you Change.' 'I will lift you out, I will pull you up.' But he forgot them as fast as he found them, he left them behind, his sights set on the next prize for his mantle. Blind ambition and unjustified confidence made him turn his back on those he said he loved. If this is how he treat the ones he loves, God spare us his treatment of those of us he doesn't.

This is Chicago, circa 1997-2002. This is what Barack Hussein Obama did for his home District. This is how he found it and this is how he left it - without looking back, without batting an eye, without ever remembering he had a job to do before moving on.

If this is Hope and this is Change who can distinguish disaster from destiny?

Ask yourself - would you want to call this place home?

To the thousands of southsiders forgotten yet again by another politician with grander mansions on their minds, we are with you - each and everyone of you - all colors, all creeds, and all classes. This is racism perpetuated by its own on its own. Poverty knows no color and no political cure. No excuses, no free passes. No selective moments of memory. Now is the time to be Color Blind, not Color Comatose.

The time may have arrived for an African American to lead this nation, and one day an honest, outstanding, and capable person of color will lead it - at last. But not THIS person of color, not THIS African American. Not THIS MAN that left his own the same or worse then he found them. NOT THIS MAN that used the most desperate as though they were total strangers, ambivalent to their causes, their conditions, to their hopes or their aspirations. Southside, the only thing Barack Obama organized for you was his departure.

But we are with you. One day indeed the product of your uniqueness and your strength as a community will rise to the highest levels of the country but that day is not now because THIS MAN IS NOT the one. He is the product of someone elses ideals, of his own invention, of his own entitled adornment.

He is the understudy risen to glory at the expense of not only the Lead but of everyone around him. He is not just educated, he is owed. And he will take on any shade or shadow provided it gives him what he thirsts for - power, validation, a mandate to force his will upon the nation and not just a desperate neighborhood.

He promised to change your lives and instead he changed his address.

But we are with you no matter how the media and the government forget you. No matter how many times you are forgotten or left behind - we are still there. And we will not forget.

Barack Obama may feel it is time he rose to the summit of his political career - despite spending just 104 days at his job before seeking the peak. But remember this, if nothing else: his past is his performance, and you Southsiders know, better than anyone in the nation, such 'performances' don't deserve promotions.

All I know is I don't ever trust a person I don't know. I look at whos policies I like best. Their talk is cheap. Their actions along with their voting record is what I go by. Obama sure has been doing a lot of voting present which is one area of concern with me. I'm voting for McCain because he has more of a hisotry in politics.
