the new blu-ray of island of lost souls has a featurette with Devo talking about how much the film influenced their music AND it has the entire "de-evolution of man" film presented as an extra--which this video came from.
that film doesn't seem to even be on YT.

This never gets old. It's still as exciting and good as the first time I heard it, years ago. I wish DEVO was still like this!!!! I guess it's up to me to make my own band!! because there really are no new bands like this.

I remember watching Devo on an English music programme So It Goes in 1978 being asked about their synthesizers & stating "we don't use synthesizers, we abuse them..."

Note how they completely switch the tense of the original, from third to first-person. "They've given ME a number, and they've taken away MY name."
This semi-cover reveals the reality of the secret agent man, as opposed to the romanticized view of the original. Bob 1 acts as the simple everyman who just has a job to do, and is resigned to a life of "safeguarding America's health," saluting the flag, and making prayers of gratitude (as opposed to prayers for his safety, oddly enough).
