My family knew Charlie Pride before he was famous. Just before. He tried to teach my mom how to ride a motorcycle. And she was too small for his big motorbike. I was four or so and remember him quite well.

He kicked down the door with talent so pure and undeniable that even the worst racist bigots in Country music had to acknowledge him and play his music! Without Charlie, Country would still be lily-white IMHO.
