وذكر التقرير أن العقاب الجسدي في مدرسة أرتاني التي تديرها مجموعة الإخوة المسيحيين الكاثوليكية كان مبالغا فيه وأن الأطفال شعروا باستمرار بالخوف وأنهم تحت التهديد.

وأوضح أنه خلال ثلثي فترة التحقيق الذي أجرى بمدرسة ليترفراك كان يوجد معتد جنسي واحد على الأقل, وظل اثنان من ممارسي الاعتداءات الجنسية موجودين هناك 14 عاما ولم يقدم رجال الدين تبريرا بشأن كيفية وجودهما هناك دون أن يكتشف أمرهما أو يتم الإبلاغ عنهما لمدة طويلة.

ويصف التقرير كيف أنه في مدرسة القديس يوسف الصناعية في ترالي الواقعة أيضا جنوب غرب أيرلندا، ظل أحد الرهبان يرعب الأطفال أكثر من سبع سنوات بعد نقله إلى هناك من مدرسة يومية حيث تسبب عنفه تجاه الأطفال هناك في حدوث مشاكل حادة مع الآباء.

وباء متوطن

كما قالت لجنة التحقيق إن الإيذاء الجنسي كان وباء متوطنا بمدارس البنين التي يديرها رجال دين. ووصف التقرير الإيذاء الجنسي للأطفال بمدرسة أرتاني الصناعية بضواحي دبلن ومدرسة ليترفراك في غرب أيرلندا بأنه مشكلة مزمنة.

وذكرت صحيفة أيريش تايمز أن التقرير الذي تمّ إنجازه بعد نحو تسع سنوات من التحقيق وأعدته لجنة برئاسة القاضي شون رايان، ركز على أطفال المدارس الصناعية الذين إما أهملهم آباؤهم أو سلموهم إلى هذه المؤسسات كي تعتني بهم.

وانتقد التقرير الذي نشرته لجنة مكافحة الإيذاء الجنسي للأطفال قادة الإخوان المسيحيين وراهبات الرحمة التي أداروا تلك المدارس وكذلك وزارة التعليم البريطانية، بسبب عجزهم عن تفقد هذه المدارس وضمان عملها بشكل ملائم.

وجاء فيه أن الأطفال عاشوا في رعب يومي لا يدرون من أين سيأتيهم الضرب مرة أخرى، مشيراً إلى أن الصبيان كانوا عادة ضحايا للاعتداء الجنسي بينما التحرش بالبنات كان أقل حدوثاً ولكنهن كنّ يعاملن معاملة فظة.

وبعد صدور التقرير، قدم كبير أساقفة أيرلندا الكاردينال شون برادي اعتذاره بسبب الانتهاكات التي ارتكبت بالكنيسة.

وقال برادي يوضح هذا التقرير أن خطأً كبيراً وأذى لحق ببعض الأطفال الأكثر عرضة للضرر في مجتمعنا، مضيفاًُ إنه يوثق لسجلٍ من القسوة والإهمال والاستغلال البدني والجنسي والعاطفي.


وقد رحبت لجنة تدعى الناجون الأيرلنديون من إساءة معاملة الأطفال، بالتقرير الذي جاء بعد انتظار طويل لصالح ضحايا النظام الوحشي المتبع في المدارس الصناعية، ويديرها الكهنة الكاثوليك ووزارة التعليم.

يُذكر أن المدارس الصناعية تأسست بأيرلندا إبان ستينيات القرن الـ19، وكان يفترض أن تقوم برعاية الأطفال اليتامي أو مجهولي النسب، ولكنها استخدمت في الغالب مستودعا لمن يسمون الأولاد المشاكسين بالإضافة إلى الفتيات اللاتي حملن من الزنا.
