One of the very few recordings where music's great revolutionary expresses his own composition, Op.21. Lyrics by Albert Giraud.
The musicians are: Erika Stiedry-von Wagner, recitation; Rudolf Kolisch, violin and viola; Stefan Auber, cello; Eduard Steuermann, piano; Leonard Posella, flute and piccolo; Kalman Bloch, clarinet and bass clarinet. Responsible for the rehearsals was, apart from Schoenberg himself, also Hermann Scherchen who later became a famous conductor. Well, the "most famous unknown conductor", rather.
Mondestrunken; Colombine; Der Dandy; Eine bleiche Wäscherin; Valse de Chopin; Madonna.

Where the sword of frenzy pierced it"
PS (Oct., 2011). I came to notice that this series developed into a kind of YT-hit. They surely are my most succesful and noted postings. So let me add for the many people who liked it, some music recommendations à la Pierrot Lunaire:
- Maurice Ravel, Chansons Madécasses;
- Hanns Eisler, Palmström, Op.5;
- Pierre Boulez, Le Marteau Sans Maître;
- Edison Denisov, La Vie En Rouge.
