During the art festival www.vierwaendekunst.de in Duesseldorf, I met Jörg Steinmann.

He connected two cables with the steel frame of a big bridge, which is being crossed by heavy traffic. Mainly cars, trucks and stuff alike. The cables were connected to a loop machine and boxes. Each passing tire (or pair of tires) made a different sound, depending on size and weight and so forth.

He recorded it and looped it into a 6 minute piece. Then start over and record over the previous version. So that a sound carpet would evolve during the day. Furthermore he divided the sounds into two versions. The previous recorded would just make a regular bumping noise, while the fresh sound would be supportet by two satellite speakers with a "blump" sound. Interestingly similar with the sounds my spaceship makes, when I flush the toilet, while in hyperspace.
