Monica Interview
(November 15, 2006) -- More than a musical style, Hip-Hop is a history of American culture and a testimony by its artists of their life experiences. BET's first-ever HIP-HOP AWARDS show, which taped Sunday, November 12 at Atlanta's historic Fox Theatre, is an electrifying evening of non-stop entertainment celebrating the genre of Hip-Hop music. The thrilling BET HIP-HOP AWARDS show premieres tonight -- Wednesday, November 15 from 9-11 p.m. ET/PT on BET.

From the first moments of multi-platinum rappers Ludacris, Jermaine Dupri, Young Jeezy and super-producer Lil' Jon's show open with the 2001 hit, "Welcome To Atlanta," to show host Katt Williams' hilarious opening monologue as the "President of the Hip-Hop Nation," the standing-room-only crowd at the Fox was "crunk." Sizzling performances by hip-hop all stars such as three-time BET HIP HOP AWARDS winner T.I., Young Dro, Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, The Game, Lil Wayne & Baby and Young Jeezy, as well as appearances by A-list entertainment industry moguls Jay Z, Diddy and Jermaine Dupri punctuated an evening full of historic moments. Atlanta's own DJ Unk shut down the show with a high-powered, dancing-in-the-aisles performance of his red-hot dance hit "Walk It Out."

Show participants also include hip-hop all-stars Busta Rhymes, rapper/producer Lil Jon, R&B songstresses Monica and Keyshia Cole, top nominees Lupe Fiasco, Rick Ross, hip-hop diva Remy Ma, reality TV stars Flavor Flav and Deelishis, Big Tigger, Melyssa Ford, Jim Jones, Big Kuntry, Rhymefest, Sway, Papoose, DJ Scratch, DJ Drama, Saigon and Styles P -- viewers will not want to miss this night of off-the-hook entertainment by the biggest names in the game!

  • Ain't no need to get racist. MTV doesn't play black people half as much as the rock bands or Madonna. 1/20 videos is a black artist. We found a way to stop being mistreated on the music scene and now people want to get mad.

  • White people do own their own tv channel(s) and award ceremony dumb ass! Lets see...cbs, abc, nbc, tbs, yup all white owned!

  • This is why I am tired of Atlanta. I hate this hip-hop/rap crap. I don't care about Atlanta being the black mecca. I want educated blacks to come to Atlanta- not thugs; like the ones who come for this hip-hop stuff. I'm sorry for sounding racist; I am not and this is true!! I was at the peach drop this year and all there was there were thugs that got in fights and one person ended up being stabbed to death. And you wonder why everywhere I go people laugh when I tell them I am from Atlanta.
