  • it;s enlightening, how to get a transcript of this video? thx :)

  • HE Tsem Tulku Rinpoche's explanation on Guru Devotion is very clear. As dharma practitioners we are ambassadors for our Guru. So we should share this knowledge with others by promoting our Guru.

  • The best pilgrimage place on earth is the Ladrang of one's Lama. In order words, everything we do in relations to our Lama should be regarded as the most sacred spiritual practice. One can gain innumerable attainments through our Lama's blessing, advice and teachings.

  • Guru according to the book Gurus For Hire Enlightenment For Sales is a contraction of the phrase Guna Ruchi. It literally means a collection of good qualities. Hence, we learn from a Guru to glean his enlightened qualities so that we eventually become Buddha ourselves.

  • What a moving teaching! Who is more kind to us? The Buddhas of the ten directions or the Lama who teaches us patiently and skillfully the Dharma? Since it is our Lama is kinder than all the Buddhas, then we should respect him via devotion to our Guru instead of empty supplications to the Buddhas.

  • I think some of the most heartfelt teachings that HE Tsem Tulku Rinpoche has ever given is on Guru devotion. He talks about it from his own experience and from his own practice. That makes it simply amazing.

  • My point is instead of telling everyone that you should be devoted to your gurus, it shouldn't be the case. In fact, sometimes students are innocent too. They don't know that their gurus exploiting them until it's too late.

I think if you have seen what I have seen, you will understand what I mean. I have really seen really really bad gurus who you will be so disappointed and unable trust any gurus at all. It's hard to gain that trust anymore after that.

  • I think if everyone has the liberty to find a real guru, that will be really lucky. But in reality, who has the choice? Sometimes.. you end up with this guru and has to finish your part of learning experience with this 'bad' guru before you can leave.. example, in school, you can't choose your teacher... sometimes you have to stick with this horrible, selfish teacher for a while before you can be free.

  • H.H. Dalai Lama had said tht one can take up to 12 years to examine a guru before formally take him/her as one's Guru.

As per Verse 7 of "Guru-Pancasika" by Asvaghosa: "A disciple with sense should not accept as his Guru someone who lacks compassion or who is angersome, vicious or arrogant, possesive, undisciplined or boasts of his knowledge."

Err... even Puah Chu Kang said use your brain la..

So, why blame the Guru? it's your own choice!

  • Exactly! Well said Dungkar80... the outer Guru is very important to push us to seek our inner Guru as we normally don't really see our our weaknesses...
