  • My first opera experience was "La Boheme" in Chicago in 1949 with the visiting NYC Opera company. Mimi was Frances Yeend and Rudolfo was Eugene Conley. What surprised me most was how big the voices were. I was in the 2nd balcony.

  • Knew and enjoyed her company in the '80s via Met activities.

  • I was very fortunate to have been her pupil from 1974-1976. There was none better. I am grateful to have learned so much from her, and her husband, James Benner.

  • I was there at the end of her tenure at WVU. What an amazing voice even at that late stage of her life. She will be missed.

  • One of our greatests!

  • Yeend was very well known, from radio, I think, when I saw her as Turandot in Philly. It was 50+ years ago, and I don't remember much other than that her voice was huge and beautiful. It's good to hear her on these clips.
