Frances Yeend, a legendary opera singer, died April 27th, 2008. She was 95.

I was very fortunate to have been her pupil from 1974-1976. There was none better. I am grateful to have learned so much from her, and her husband, James Benner.

I was there at the end of her tenure at WVU. What an amazing voice even at that late stage of her life. She will be missed.

Yeend was very well known, from radio, I think, when I saw her as Turandot in Philly. It was 50+ years ago, and I don't remember much other than that her voice was huge and beautiful. It's good to hear her on these clips.
