Vertigo. It's the sensation of spinning, falling, tumbling and turning. Victims can feel nauseated, off balance, like they're losing control. Bouts of vertigo can be very scary, but doctors at Mayo Clinic say, for people with a particular type of vertigo, treatment is easy and very effective.

  • My husband once called his doc because he was experiencing vertigo. His doc asked him if the room was spinning clockwise or counter clockwise. Why would that even matter?

  • Dr. Eggers--Sometimes the direction of spinning can give the doctor a clue about which side is affected. More often it is simply helpful to determine whether the patient visually perceives the room to be spinning or whether it is merely an internal sensation of head spinning without visual accompaniment.

  • @Mrgruntastic I'm sorry I also forgot to mention, I have/get? Vertigo often.

  • I am a veteran of the iraq war and had been hit with multiple IEDs, as well as severe hearing loss. I have heard that the hearing loss could also cause Vertigo, is this correct? also do minor concussions lead to vertigo?

    Thank You

  • I was diagnosed with BPPV 2 years ago, was treated with Epley maneuver and dizziness went away. I still however have lightheadiness after 2 yrs, it doesn't affect my driving or concentrating, however if I move my head quickly or stand up its bothersome, and basically just affects how energetic I am. any ideas??

  • I am currently suffering from BPPV and looking for a cure. so far in my research, this video is most helpful in describing the problem. I like the graphical demonstration and audio, very clear and understandable. Im going to start these exercises straight away. Thank you for your help in advance!

  • I believe the illustration is for Epley maneuver. Am I correct? Either way, this video shows clearly how otoliths move with the repositioning maneuver. It is the best video I have seen so far that shows the motion of otoliths. Thank you for posting this video.
