The natural tunnel was carved out of the rock by water. It is 850ft long and has a gentle S-curve. No regular tours into the tunnel because it is actively being used, empty coal cars head into Kentucky to be loaded.
@thehorseshoecurve That is a good question. It happened that during the time we visited, a local author "Tony Scales" that has dedicated his life to this Tunnel was selling/signing a book about the tunnel. The book was called "Natural Tunnel: Nature's Marvel in Stone" It may be able to answer that question. He was saying that once a year he does a guided tour of the tunnel. Entrance into the tunnel is strictly prohibited to the public.
What if it colapeds could they still fix it?
