Urology707, It is grand to know that you are one of a few of the "Young Guns" who even know who the late Syreeta Wright,& Fonce & Larry Mizell were. Rappers make news; Jazz musicians make HISTORY! I'm happy to enlighten you anytime.
Sincerely
Colonel Santo A. Chase,USA(Ret.)

Man, this one takes me back to the day I turned 14 in the late spring of 1978. This was the cut that my pops had finally "made a jazz man'' out of me, as he put it. He had been listening to Gary Bartz since the 60's, but it was this album that put him over with me. Thanx for the posting of this still cool tune.

@swt32567 A few of the other cuts are excellent as well. Listen to it all a few times.

"Play it HARD!" -an exclamation by Donald Byrd, perhaps, at about at about 2:31.

I, too, discovered this album in 1977. It took a minute for me to get into it, but when I did, I used to have emotional spasms when listening to it -tears of joy would actually flow from my eyes. And recently when I came across it on CD, I bought it instantly. Those tears & spasms still occur. The musicianship (and production) is SUPERB! Gary Bartz, Donald Byrd, Syreeta Wright, the Mizell Brothers and everybody else involved created what has been said earlier in these comments: HISTORY!

This one is a gem. Takes me back to 77/78 at Point Park University - downtown Pittsburgh. We used to jam this one, blastin in the dorm hallways. Larry Gordon, a Detroit hooper - turned me onto Gary Bartz - been a fan evry since. Can you say Fonce and Mizell? they're cats behind DByrd, Blackbyrds, Harvey Mason, Marvin, early J-5, even some LTD - amazingly talented brothers. Where are they from ??? i never knew. teacawks@yahoo.com - now in Augusta, GA

Fantastic. Didn't think I'd hear this again. Lately many obscure jazz musics from the 70's are posted on Youtube. Ramsey Lewis, Karma, Dave Valentin, Paul Horn, Mike Maineri, Stanley Turrentine, Tom Browne, Caldera, Harvey Mason, Lonnie Liston Smith, Dexter Wansel, Wayne Henderson, Ronnie Laws, Lee Ritenour and Keith Jarrett to name a few. Bought 300 albums ($3.99 or 3 for $10.00). Albums, concerts ($15-$20) & the ladies kept me broke & happy. Great post.

I was seventeen when I first heard this and I played the album over and over again. I was into Gary Bartz and Andy Bey back then , but this joint was sooo funky. Many of us at that time and at that age listen to a wide variety of music. Good music.
