This is a Mississippi Mud Turtle, previously identified as "some type of box turtle." Apparently, some mud turtles have hinged plastrons, which I never previously knew. Who would have thought it?
@DISAPEAR1 Damn it all to hell! You're right! Yet, the "trying to bite you" test seems a strange and fallible indentification criterion, as I have been bitten by a conclusively identified ornate box turtle (twice). I also never knew Mississippi mud turtles had hinged plastrons. Most of the species descriptions online neglect to mention it. Thanks!
