A short field sequence from documentary title:
"Shaawanoki - The Mystery of the Swamp Apes"
(Bronze Award, Nature & Wildlife, 1999 Houston International Film Festival)
Peter Byrne, a British Air Force veteran of World War II, and a former hunter of man-eating tigers in India, has led several Yeti Expeditions in the Nepal Himalya. Peter is also well known for his research projects into the Bigfoot mystery of the Pacific Northwest (results of which have been published in his best-selling book "The Search for Bigfoot"). In the summer of 1998, Byrne was asked to investigate questionable evidence that suggests existence of a small group of 'swamp apes', living in the Everglades, Big Cypress and the coastal islands of South Florida. These creatures are known to the region's Seminole Indians as Shaawanoki. The story unfolds from the perspective of a world explorer's opinion on fact and fiction behind recently reported swamp ape sightings. Based on several decades of experience and well funded research into related phenomena, Mr. Byrne objectively explains how biological conditions in southern Florida are favorable to the potential existence of such creatures. Simultaneously he critically analyzes and discredits most photographs captured by 'eyewitnesses' as sensationalist and fraudulent.
