  • 1:52 to the end might just be one of the best sections of any piece of music i have ever heard or will ever hear.

  • I believe Alfred Reed composed Armenian Dances for his friend Dr. Harry Begian. Dr. Begin's parents immigrated to the U.S. from Turkey/Armenia in the early 1900's. Dr. Begian served as director of bands at the University of Illinois from 1970-1984.

  • @Jiggleslinky I'm currently playing this in my high school wind ensemble, and my band director says that this is probably the hardest piece we will play in our time in the wind ensemble. Its made up of grades 10-12, so a wide range of technique, skill and experience. Granted I am the lead flute player so our part is not quite as bad as the clarinet part but it's still really fast and hard. It also doesn't help that we don't have an oboe this year so the clarinets are also playing the oboe cues.

  • 2:54 best clarinet solo i have ever heard...

  • Amazing! I have always wanted to interpret the last section with equal speed. In his day, Komitas did not have the fulness of joy that required such gusto...however, without the tragedies that preceded and followed...he might well have written with greater gusto and joy. Nevertheless...I like it.

  • Ahrgh. This piece is so hard to play on clarinet. Plus my director wants to go faster than this.

  • AMAZING. The last portion starts off way faster than I remember... and then it gets quicker

  • @calenlass They sound professional...because they are a professional wind orchestra!

  • @RocketRodder the did go faster, just not much. you can notice it if you actually listen closer. Lol ! it took me awhile to notice it too.

  • @yos313 These 2 videos are both Part 1. They just had to be separated because the piece is sooooo long. It is a great recording of it, though. The Tokyo Kosei people should be proud that they sound so professional!

  • @Jiggleslinky lol thats depends on the tempos that are taken. One of the hardest things that I have encountered in trying to play this peice is the insturmentation. Reed wrote parts for CB Clarinet, Alto Clarinet, and English horn and the peice really sounds dead withought them. Not a problem for a university but for a high school group that might really be a problem to have them covered.
