President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo led the commemoration of the 107th Anniversary of the Balangiga Encounter Day in the coastal town of Balangiga, Eastern Samar. The President joined the Samareños as they paid tribute to their great forefathers who fought and died in asserting their freedom from American colonization.
The Balangiga encounter which happened on September 29, 1901 was described by the United States military as its worst single defeat in the Philippines while Filipinos regarded the attack as one of their bravest acts in the war. Balangiga, Eastern Samar, September 30, 2008

People with billions should at least give a few hundred thousand to their local communities, not to mention all the people who have helped them become who they are. Of course it's not a debt that they're paying off, but rather an effort that could get this country back on its feet.
