Gucci Opens Children's Store in New York

Gucci Gucci Goo! New York mothers can now take their kids to a Gucci store made just for them. New York Magazine has more:

"Gucci opened a children's boutique on Fifth Avenue yesterday ... According to a press release, the store strives to be kid-friendly with mini-sized furniture and Gucci-branded teddy bears so that 'clients may play with their children' while shopping."

The store caters to babies all the way through eight year olds. Trendy tots can snag anything from leather jackets to faux fur, but shoppers can expect the pint-sized threads to come with very adult price tags. New York Daily News has a rundown on some of the more expensive items:

"Gucci sells grown-up looks for girls and boys including a $3,800 pink biker jacket, a tiny white faux-wrap dress for $495 and daughter's first Gucci bag -- a $825 backpack with leather trim and engraved teddy bear."

Despite the recession, little kid luxury goods have taken center stage over the past year. Labels like Gucci, Lanvin, Versace, Stella McCartney, and Burberry all have a children's line in stores or in the works. Business Insider spoke to Doneger Group's Creative Director Jamie Ross about the trend:

"About three years ago, we started to see designer clothes for children enter the market. But the past year, we've seen it enter a good mainstream consciousness. These moms who wear the brands themselves and place their identity in them, and want their children to have matching aesthetics."



His take on kids dirtying up designer duds? Moms who spend the money already have a great dry cleaner.
