Are you believing the Gospel, or are you assuming that you do? Stay tuned to the story at the end. I literally said, "Wow." out loud, and no one was around.

Shepherds...Just take the meal that Christ has prepared and put it on the table that is all we are called to do and trust Him...to do the work.

Your audience is not man, but God... Be earnest, and faithful to Him, but particularly to His word. Discover His Image from Genesis to Revelation. Don't shrink back from difficult passages or seek Him were He is not found (speculation). Read what you can from the great men of faith on subjects like justification, election, atonement, grace, faith vs. works, covenants and promises, the Church etc. Moreover, be intimate with your Lord in prayer...delight in Him (Ps 37:4) in all things...

If that is the true sentiment of your heart, the God bless your hunger. Our Lord has not left His people without teachers of His word. Who love His word above and beyond their own comfort...Many of which are on Lane's Video-list. The desire to understanding the gospel is the heart of discipleship. So study to show yourself approved UNTO GOD! It is Christ who teaches, prepares, and sends His ministers out for the great work of proclaiming the truth. Not by might, or power, but by word/spirit!

That's a great question! In Church history, the preaching of the Gospel was always understood to be a proclamation. Not just 4 quick steps to salvation. Your concern over preaching is appropriate then, if all you are preaching is: a summary of an outline to an even greater story. The Gospel was preached in the Garden, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to Kings and priests, prophets and saints, and reaches its fulfillment in the revelation of Christ. This is Christ's saving work in history

One of my favorite qoutes from Jeff Noblit goes great with this video:
"Preach the truth and trust the Spirit of God to convict lost sinners, and draw men to Jesus Christ"

When he speaks about "post-modern and modern", he's using an interpolation, but this interpolation is accurate, it just isn't word for word in the original text. He's making a point with it.
Thanks for the encouragement, too.

Talk about scratching me where I itch! Oh, the empty chatter coming from the pulpits of America to tickle the ears of people!

I can say that this is so true! I grew up in a christian home, went to sunday school, meetings, youth meetings. I attended a christian school, had christian friends, read the bible. And yet, it took me almost 20 years before I heard and understood the gospel. Because I had never heard it preached clearly. It was always watered out, or just ranting about something trivial. But thank GOD for his mercy and for shedding his blood for my sake!

Amen. I had a similar experience growing up SBC.

So I was in a group on Facebook which made a comment that protestant churches lack "beauty." Since we are talking about church and its function, do you agree?
sickofchange17 3 years ago
Beauty as in what sense? I would say that the story at the end of this clip is an example of extreme beauty that occurs in Protestant churches.
