My thoughts on the BBC documentary done in 1999 in relation to design and modern design practices.

This was a class assignment as part of my contextual studies lecture. I'm a graphic design student, NOT a philosophy student - but I do have a general interest in schools of thought/general philosophy.

While I did my best to grasp Neitzsche, I will readily admit that I do not have a very strong understanding, especially when compared to those of you who properly study philosophy, so please - be gentle.

  • Excellent little video, and its always a delight to hear others views on Nietzsche. Any chance of you doing a similiar type review for the Heidegger and Sartre ones in the Human, All Too Human series?

  • @ScreamsFromTheAbyss I hadn't planned on it but I might. It's really interesting.

  • I don't think he was trying to say so much that there is no definative answer - it's more like - the answer is only as it exists in your mind - whether an objective reality exists or not does not matter - only what's in your mind is what matters. So the emphasis is not what's real, it's on what matters.

  • Loved the distinction you made between culture and people, because that's always been my impression especially of existentialism as it's presented by the likes of Camus and Sartre, and in fact I feel Nietzsche probably/possibly paved the way for their development and arrival at absurdism which is essentially a school of thought that each were expressing individually through/in their lifes work. Imo. Thanks for your thoughts :)

  • Nietzsche entered into the human abyss and lit the lantern brighter than anyone before or after him. But it will always remain a mystery if he himself found a way out or just simply went insane while steeped so far in it. He has been one of my hero's, but guard yourself against Zarathustra! Perhaps he didn't just deceive you or I, but perhaps he deceived himself most of all.

Thanks for the video! It's interesting to hear other peoples thoughts on this amazing man.

  • The ring of rings.......the eternal return of the same.

His will to power is the answer to nihilism when viewed in light of the ring.

The overcoming in Zar.3 has freed us from all metaphysical traps and web spinning. Now we are free to create and we breathe easier in this altitude.
