this is a small section of a historic silent film that was shot on aug 27, 1972 at Madison Square Garden in NYC. by close friend of the band and manager of Delaney and Bonnie, Alan Pariser (PariserArchives.com).
the entire reel runs over 20 mins and features, among other performance moments, a huge birthday cake presented to mick on the occasion of his birthday...the band then proceeds to get into a cake fight!
While there is a lot of film footage from the 1972 tour, its strange that this moment was not preserved in a more proffessional manner! Luckily, Alan was in on it and filmed this piece of Rock history!
The soundtrack comes from a soundboard tape that circulates among collectors.
The end of the film (partially featured here) depicts the encore when opening act Stevie Wonder and band are brought on for the ending song, Mick leading Stevie across the stage.
ENJOY!

  • i was there.stevie wonder opened. at the Stones encore, Stevie came back out along with the cake. Confetti rained from the vents all over MSG. I still have a bagful of it. They sang Uptight and Satisfcation together. Very satisfying to say the least.

  • @Jumpin2it You must have had such an awesome time you didn't realize it was Tuesday. ;) (It was Tues 25th and Wed 26th)

    Seriously, wish I hadn't been 6 yrs-old then. Envious!.

  • Supsailor1885 appears to be correct. I checked the tour dates and the Stones played Madison Square Garden on July 25 & 26th 1972 and Mick's birthday is July 26, 1943. I doubt they would have celebrated it a month later. It also shows 7/26/72 was the end of the tour...no August.

  • @jackdelawack

I was at the Monday show first night in New York and what a show. Mick Taylor was awesome and still is. Peace & Cheers!!

  • The Correct date was July 26, 1972, Mick's 29th Birthday

  • @sashageyer95 You're right... I've got the dvd
