It was the one condition we agreed to when Nissan handed us the keys to this white pre-production GT-R. "You can do whatever you want," Nissan engineer Bruce Robinson told us. "But no testing. We'll get you a production car for that in a few weeks"

"No problem," we said. "Cross our hearts."

But drag racing isn't testing. Well, sorta. And last night we went drag racing. Sacramento Raceway grudge night. The place was packed. And the 2009 Nissan GT-R was the star of the show.

The crowds around the car were four deep most of the night. Everyone wanted to know how we got it, how much it costs and of course, how fast it could go. We popped the hood, opened the doors and let anyone who wanted to sit behind the wheel. Every camera phone ever sold seemed to be pointed at the car.

And when it was our time to make a pass the stand packed like John Force had come to town with his funny car.

  • driving a car doesn't mean to go on a straight path............. what a pity... that's quite american... :-)

The REAL VALUE OF THIS INCREDIBLE CAR can only be proved on a real race circuit!

  • Nope, they do not, Marlo. R34 and lower have the Skyline name. Nissan has past the Skyline name now over to the Infiniti G35 or the V35s.

The R35 is a GTR. Nissan GTR R35.

    Nissan GTR Skyline R34, R33, R32, etc.

    Infiniti G35 / V35 Skyline

  • @ciaomiciabella he just wanted to see what it would do, shut the fuck up i hate when people bitch about drag racing. Its like running the 100m for cars. Im guessing you havent draged raced before.

  • Where`s the Skyline. I only saw an GT-R.

  • @daveyboygee How exactly are they comparible ?? Corvette ZR1 6.2 Litre 638BHP 606 LB FT Torque 1,515 KG vs Nissan GTR 3.8 Litre 480BHP 403 LB FT Torque 1,749 KG. Yeah thats very comparible, ain't it ?..... Saying the ZR1 is better is self opinionated, but when it comes to track racing and drag racing it takes pro drivers and experianced drivers to get decent times... Except that the new 2011 Nissan GTR destorys the ZR1 and 2011 ZR1 especially at Nurburgring even on wet conditions.. Haha Fail...

  • @masonizere People love to compare cars. And those two compare favorably...except that the ZR1 is better.

  • @daveyboygee I don't see no Corvette ZR1 in this video, so why does it have to be mentioned everytime theres a GTR video...

  • @daveyboygee ehh ill keep my supra over anything

  • @BIHxJDMxSUPRA That's true! Guess I'd prefer to be in a CTS-V than either of these anyhow!

  • @daveyboygee u also get alot of plastic and 2 seats with the ZR-1 and every other corvette LOL

  • @chrisdef15 The fact is that the ZR-1 costs more, but it is faster. I say, you get what you pay for.

  • @chrisdef15 chris it's pretty obvious that there are many comparisions that can be made between these cars that are subjective. I would point out to you that the Corvette's excellent interior is ergononic and more comfortable than the Nissan's but that is MY opinion. Vettes have an extremely high resale value, better than most imports. The GTR is so new it has no such track record. And being made in the country that 1st harnessed the power of the atom and sent men to the moon is a good thing.
