Some more patterns, shred style! For the sake of the examples we are using Diminished scale and Whole Tone. Both can be played over A minor 6.

  • In the first scale, are you playing dud, dud when you repeat the line on the same string or playing dududu until you change strings? Thanks.

  • @ChetArrista it always starts with a down stroke on the string change. i alternate pick on one string, but even then the first stroke is down. then when it is time for the string change, its a down stroke on that next string, lower or higher. always down on the string change.

  • are you keeping your rest stroke pattern on the way back down the scale? that seems really hard.

  • @jpalmerer Yes. Its difficult, but the more you do it the more natural it will become.

  • what guitar are you using?? Is still the Gitane John Jorgerson model ??

  • @superalbertos550 no its a Dell'Arte Hommage Favino copy.

  • I thought I was making progress with speed, maybe even getting close. And then I came back and watched this video again. I am not even in the same universe let alone on the same planet. You are fully automatic rapid Uzi machine gun fire and I am a 6 shot hand load pistol. Damm you reality.

  • Firstly, Thanks! Anyone of your caliber that shares their knowledge, talent and gifts is an outstanding person.

I want to pick fast and clean like you. I have never studied ‘manouche’ picking but I am ready. Is there a video that demonstrates the fundamentals well?

In this video (diminished scale) it would be D U D U D – D U D U D – D…etc ascending. But doing these ‘double down’ pick strokes when you are descending too seems crazy to me. I can see U – U descending, but not D – D

  • Thank you and thanks again for your valuable lessons!!!

  • thanks!
