Q: Does Finch Paper ever clear cut forests?

A: Finch foresters do recommend clear cuts on some occasions, but its not like the ugly pictures youve seen from other parts of the world. Done responsibly, a small clear cut is sometimes the best way to regenerate a forest.

For example, take a white birch forest that has reached maturity and is beginning to decline in health. Because new white birch trees require vast amounts of sunlight to grow, the mature trees must be removed so that sunlight can reach the forest floor. By clear cutting this forest, well allow the new trees to take root AND be able to utilize valuable wood from a maturing forest.

The Finch foresters write a detailed prescription for any type of harvest. The instructions for any tract, including clear cuts, will protect valuable habitats, watersheds, and rare plant species. In fact, Finch foresters excel at managing aesthetically and biologically sensitive areas.
