  • esa kancion es the la gran banda THE SKATALITES no de ellos.....

that song is from the great band THE SKATALITES, not these guys

  • haha, nice try, but you're wrong. this song was not written/recorded by the original Skatalites. It was done by the SOUL VENDORS in 1967. It's a cover of a theme from the musical "Fiddler on the roof" (written by Jerry Bock & Sheldon Harnick). It was also recorded by the Soul Brothers for Coxsone. Next time, make sure to do your homework first ;-)

  • Well, right but minor point - Soul Venders were recording for Coxsone, so the Soul Brothers bit is redundant-- Soul Brothers was name of the studio group that preceded Soul Vendors at Studio One, with partially same musicians. by 1967 it is Soul Vendors, so perhaps some recording labels just called them "Soul Brothers" because they assumed it was "whatever the house band at Studio One is calling itself these days." :)

  • Thanks for the input. May be I should have been more specific.

Soul Brothers covered "Fiddler on the roof" first (check the "Hot Shot" LP). Soul Vendors adapted that tune and created what we know as "Swing Easy".

Two different recordings, done in a different style, it's not really redundant. Skatalites, Soul Brothers, Soul Vendors, Sound Dimension... Studio 1 story :)

  • ska life!!

  • No quiero sonar grosero con tigo pero no es de The Skatalites ni de ellos, es de otra gran banda: Coul Vendors, aun que The Skatalites la tocan eventualmente.

I do not want to be rude whit you but this one is not from The Genesis of Ska, it is from another old legend: Soul Vendors, and The Skatalites play it sometimes.

  • oh OK I get what you're saying (I sorta misread part before). Hey, so anyway what are your thoughts on that Soul Brothers' "Fiddler..."? I mean in terms of the rhythm -- it would be too easy to just call "Latin". merengue? Now it's gonna drive me crazy wanting to pin-point it. Anyway, cool video... and please comment on any of my videos about Reggae musicians if anything comes to mind. thanks

  • can be played on the flute and violin as well...

    wicked!

  • Fabuloso!!!

    buena banda!

  • sweeet
