After 68 years of continuous compatible service, analog television broadcasting comes to an end as the final NTSC transmitters go off the air.

  • @910364 why?

  • @OXLEYCRUSHER But I bet there are plenty of people who will chuck these old sets out (or have done so, in the US and wherever else has gone digital) and it is a fair comment on our throwaway society.

  • @OXLEYCRUSHER Or you can buy a converter box. Or just hook it up to an old VCR.

  • The biggest con ever-in a age when we are supposed to be eco-friendly,we are consigning millions of good TV's to the scrap heap, with their contaminants, nobody asked for digital tv,analog served us well and this is typical of modern thinking where we design built in obsolesence!

  • pal is the best format of video and always will be

  • @scaryred24 PAL has 20% more lines of resolution but NTSC has a higher video refresh rate (30 frames vs 25 fps). So, the PAL image will have better resolution but the NTSC format works better for fast motion video So, generally speaking, if you have PAL-sourced video (DVDs, on-air or cable programming, etc.), it will look better on a PAL system. And, if you have NTSC-sourced video, it will look better on an NTSC system + tint control is an issue in ntsc

  • @geekforlifevandc What makes you say that? Sure 576p PAL TV has a better coding standards than NSTC *cough cough* ASTC at 480p but the PAL lacks constant frame rate over quality at 50Hz unlike ASTC at 60HZ. It all comes down to one thing and thats your country's broadcasting government offices. ASTC vs PAL is not a valid argument at this point because they both look excellent in processing because all my TVs are 480i/480p but my PC monitor is processing in PAL and the images are stretched.

  • I love it that these are all recording from Bostonian Stations.

    WLVI Channel 56 CW Boston

WHDH Chanel 7 NBC Boston (7 News Evening Edition simulcasted on WLVI Channel 56 CW Boston)

The Boston Channel WCVB Channel 5 ABC

WBZ-TV (sister broadcaster to radio station WBZ-AM) Channel 4 CBS Boston

Well theres ATSC in EDTV quality (480p) until 2012 for the total 720p widescreen switch which I'm 100% affected by it since I have no HDTV or any HD ready cable/satelite/boxes.

  • The NTSC/PAL and whatever standards are still around kinda because the new digital signals are built upon the old standards. Still today an American digital signal would not work in a PAL country like the UK because the standards are still different. I love the way Americans get so emotional and here in England we just get cut off. :-)
