This opening night event honors heroes from American history and today, and features a multimedia portrait of Abraham Lincoln, the Civil War and the ongoing struggle for freedom, justice and equality. Copland's Lincoln Portrait will be complemented by powerful photochoreography by James Westwater and live narration by actor, professional storyteller and Emmy-nominee Bill Mooney.

Bravo! Colorado, a piece dedicated to the memory of Gerald Ford, reflects the beauty of majestic mountains, alpine gardens and whitewater—a fitting soundtrack for our beautiful state. Beethoven's monumental Symphony No. 3 "Eroica" celebrates the hero within each of us.

We are also proud to be partnering with local social service organizations for an original work of photochoreography accompanying Copland's iconic Fanfare for the Common Man, celebrating the volunteers and nonprofit staffers who truly are Boulder's own heroes.
