North dakota: probably not at the top of most vacation destination lists, but chock full o' wildlife on every desolate stretch of blacktop. prairie chickens appear out of nowhere only to turn into a vaporised cloud of feathers when you accidentally drive into them at 75mph. the giant metal variety on the enchanted highway near regent are the awe inspiring art work of the dedicated gary greff. mule deer and antelope dot the highways and run across the road in front of you when you least expect it. the theodore roosevelt badlands national park at old western town medora contains a fine specimen of one of the few remaining wild horse herds in america. and lots of bison. which can run 35mph and like to gore people to death. vast vistas of "prairie dog towns" contain thousands of squeaking varmints. some of them rabid, most likely.
enjoy.
