Your Daily Politics Video Blog: Two speeches, two very different visions for the futures of America and Iraq. Barack Obama and John McCain delivered dueling speeches today on foreign policy and America's future course in the Middle East. We bring you the highlights back-to-back in today's episode of TPMtv.
I agree with to some extent, but why lie about weapons of mass destruction and tell the truth about severe human rights violations contrary international policies on it. I've been to Iraq twice in my military service (and soon enough more deployments), and I've listened to the people, which I'm sure Gore would've utilized any political means to get Saddam to stop. Look at how Reagan dealt with USSR's Gorbechav and their human rights violations...

Had Gore left Iraq alone, Saddam would have felt free to continue to violate his obligations to disarm and he would have continued to support terrorists around the world. Bush did the right thing in taking him out.

I hate to say it, but I probably would've have agree with you, but we don't know that for sure. I just wanted to see your thoughts on it, as my thought are a bit similar, only Gore would've taken Afghanistan, and left Iraq alone for good reasons.

i think if Gore had been in office on 9/11, he'd have continued the same lame, ineffectual policies of his former boss - when the world trade towers were first attacked in 1993, Clinton fired off a few missiles into empty mud huts and that was it. He had a chance to capture Bin Laden but didn't. Gore would have been more of the same.

And what do you think had Gore taken office in regards to Sept. 11th and Iraq?

One can make the argument that in the most draconian of states, crime is the lowest....but what would you rather have? Low crime or individual rights? I'll take the crime and keep my rights, thankyouverymuch. Saddam was a tyrant who took rights away from people for no reason other than they disagreed with him. He was never elected by anyone to anything. Iraq is now a democracy and has an elected parliament, thanks to the hard work of the military, our allies, and president Bush.

I have to agree with you to a certain extent, but I'm a vet, and I've been to Iraq two times. I've met and worked with the local Iraqi and I have quite the mixed emotions going on. One is I totally am against invading a sovereign nation such as Iraq, two, I'm for basic human rights of which most of the locals I spoke with told me that Saddam took many rights away from Christians and Shiites, and killed many that didn't agree with his policies. It's draconian, but it quelled tribal rivalries.
