We developed a novel architecture to store, sort and simulate huge crowds of autonomous entities in a GPU using CUDA technology [1]. In this video we captured a series of realtime simulations of up to one million flocking boids at interactive framerates to tell a story of evolution.
The video presents a timeline of a civilization, beginning with just a couple of individuals that start reproducing, create a family and then become a whole community of boids. The number of individuals keeps increasing, showing the appearance of dissident groups, eventually leading to war. With the war comes the hunger that ends up devastating the population, which, in the end, reaches its initial small number and begins the cycle once again.
