Highlights from running backs Thomas Jones (#6) and Boo Sensabaugh (#9) as they both battle against one another in 1994. The Powell Valley Vikings would finish the season 12-2, advancing to and winning the state championship. The John I. Burton Raiders would finish strong but be finished early in the playoffs by the Appalachia Bulldogs.

Thomas Jones (#6), in this game, broke the Virginia single-game rushing record with over 400 rushing yards, just slightly surpassing the record set many years ago by his uncle, the great Ed "Stonega Stallion" Clark, who started for the Appalachia Bulldogs from 1966-68, setting several school records and becoming known as one of the greatest running backs ever to come out of Appalachia or the state of Virginia for that matter. Jones would later go on to play for the Virginia Cavaliers and now starts in the NFL for the New York Jets. You can watch him every Sunday in the pros!

Boo Sensabaugh (#9) would pick up over 300 yards in this game and go on to play for the West Virginia Mountaineers as a defensive back. Sensabaugh was one of the best running backs in the area but was unfortunate enough to play in the same era as Thomas Jones. He remains one of the greatest running backs ever to come out of John I. Burton High School.

  • That run by Jones that begins at :28 is epic, man. Thomas Jones is pure class and always has been. Thanks for the great years in Chicago, TJ. A damn shame they let you go and kept Cedric...you played with great heart man, and Chicago will always love you.

  • @STEEPPOW Yeah, he was a beast! I miss watching him and his brother Julius play there at Powell Valley. They and the powerful teams they played on brought a lot of joy to these small towns.

  • Was jim adams the coach at this time i currently go to john i burton

  • @TheRaiders72 Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Adams became head coach around 1997 or 1998.
