Today I tested the vampire power draw of five different types of mobile phone charger (ones from Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Nokia and Apple).

Their draw was all 0.1W or less when not charging phones .

When you stack that up against the vampire draw from the Wii being over 9W, you have to conclude that mobile phone chargers are not major contributors to household phantom load.

  • Good point, I agree. The charger for my Pantech uses 3 watts when charging, and doesn't even register (shows 0.0) when the phone isn't attached. That's less than 0.1. Awhile back in the USA they had a commercial campaign on TV encouraging people to unplug their cell phone chargers when not in use. I was like "what"? Surely a campaign to remind people to turn off unused lights would save far more energy if only a few did it, vs. unplugging cell phone chargers at <0.1watts ea. Good point,THX
