Get the slow-mo tab for this at playguitarsolos.com... When I went to figure this out it was in Ab. That seemed kind of strange, so I decided to loosen the strings a bit and do it in A, vs tightening them and doing it in G. Now I see the Allman Bros playing it LIVE in G..... However I will be remaking this in Ab... the key of the orignal studio recording. I'm guessing they dropped it to G for their live perfomances for various reasons, which I won't bother to list here....

  • BTW - the way I play the middle solo is slightly different and I do believe yours is more correct to the record. Great! Now I have to relearn it after 30 some odd years! Thanks alot! LOL! Good job!

  • I would love to know some of the reasons why they would drop it to G. ive been playing this tune for years and i always played it in G. I figured it out from the record. I suppose that its possible i was a 1/4 step out and "fine tuned" it at that time but I dont seem to remember that. Plus why Ab? No horns. The only thing I could think of is Greg sings it better in Ab. Again thats why I would like to hear the reasons you think they tuned down.

  • Amazing stuff....you capture the essence of every solo.

  • Tom, I'm the new kid on the block, kind of & if you feel good doing this, do it some more & you'll feel great, thanks.

  • Tom has a way of bringing to life solos I didn't pay much attention to before

  • great!

  • Ab.

  • Leavin from nashville tennessee, oh they always havin a good time down in bayou hall!

  • most likely neck pickup, volume around 2 or 3, tone around 5 or 6.

i have an SG but never played this song, so its just a guess about the tone. somewhere close to that though, i would put money on it.

  • excellent job! can you please tell how you get that sound like which pickup switch and amp settings?
