ANOTHER WORLD: Frankie Dies (Stalker Storyline) Pt. 7

The firing of AW alumni Alice Barrett was a sad and devastating blow to the fans of "Another World" for it set in motion the decision to kill off the character that she had portrayed for seven years: the beloved Frankie Frame.

Though brilliantly performed, the storyline is infamous for the controversy it sparked among the show's fans and the soap's executives as well as for the grisly violent way in which the character was murdered. The show never recovered from the loss of Frankie who, in many ways, represented the heart of the show.

In Part 7, Rachel and Joe arrive at the Winthrop's house. The look on their faces is all Felicia needs to know that Frankie is indeed gone.

Cass enters the room, already knowing what he doesn't want to acknowledge and immediately makes small talk. While doing so, he looks Felicia in the face, knowing she won't let him lie to himself, and he gives way to his grief.

Gabe and Joe are back at the crime scene where they discover the partial letter Frankie had carved before dying. Gabe surmises Frankie was trying to tell them something. At this point, Lorna arrives and realizes that Frankie has been murdered.

Matthew informs Vicky and Jake at Carlino's about Frankie. Vicky is finding it hard to accept since she was just laughing with her at Josie's bridal shower the night before. Matthew tells Jake to let him handle the copy for that day's paper. Vicky prays softly for Ryan to watch over Frankie.

Cass arrives at the morgue with Felicia. He decides to see her alone and upon viewing her, he is numbed. He touches and kisses her body one last time to preserve memory of it. When he pulls the sheet away, Frankie's bruises are revealed through her torn clothing. He is made aware of the severe beating his wife endured and is nearly overcome with grief. He then kneels down at her head and weeps bitterly.

  • Cass with Frankie in the morgue has been and always will be the single most romantic, real love story I have or ever will see. The writers and the actor created a scene worthy of a classic novel. A beautiful, yet gut wrenching moment in soap history. Thank you for uploading these stories, I have missed them.

  • It was beautifully acted, but I still despise the storyline for its outcome.

  • You are making me into an Another World fan a good 10-11 years after the fact.

  • Cool... and sorry at the same time. It must stink to become a fan of something that is long gone... still, try to enjoy.

  • I love that Cass is acting the same exact way John did when he thought Sharlene had died. Denial. How deep someone love for another must be to grieve that way.

  • @jsx2mom I agree completely. It proves that AW had the best most talented soap actors of all that era. The show got worse towards the end,but it wasnt the fault of the actors. They were the best in the business.

  • I remember reading in Soap Opera Weekly that they had planned to kill off Frankie and thinking to myself they won't do it. Then, I was devastated when it played out onscreen.

  • this is the most heartbreaking scenes from AW

  • @calelle - I hated PAssions too. I never watched it for a second and so glad it failed for the crap it was. AW was so much a part of my life for many years and seeing so many deaths of characters I loved was heartbreaking...but I kept watching to the bitter end.

  • who was the killer i forgot but will always remember frankie and ryan death so sad and well palyed by the actors

  • i agree even thought i did watch passion but another world was the best i agree with you w got passions over this soo soo sad right

  • The morgue scene was always so emotional and powerful to me...

  • Wouldn't it have been more compelling if, after all of that, she had LIVED? I tried to watch AW after Santa Barbara was canceled, but just couldn't get into it. I am here to find out what was the "DESPICABLE storyline that killed a beloved heroine and turned off longtime viewers". It seems to me, MORE DRAMATIC if she had lived to face the struggle of recovery with her family to love and guide her, as well as allowing her to confront her attacker. Then again, I could be wrong...

  • Lost a lot of key talent in too short of time. Ryan Harrison, Frankie Frame, Michael Hudson, Frankie Frame, and Carl Hutchins. Lost them for Passions who didn't make it to 10 years. Hate Passions!
