Description of the four elements of nature and their effect on the meditative practice.

CORRECTION: A swami friend reviewed the video and wanted to correct me in saying that the oil to the third eye is applied using the middle finger...we all have things to learn :)

  • This is not 4 elements meditation. The lens of history has warped the proper method here. 4E meditation instructs you to concentrate and feel the qualities of each element in preparation for Vipassana practice. See "Knowing and Seeing" by Pa Auk Sayadaw.

  • @thunderinthesky : this is simply my personal experience of meditation and is not substantiated by literature per se. We evolve through our understanding and perceptions and this is simply an offering of a personal understanding as is all other practices. It is a process of delving into the deeper experience - there is no wrong or right - this video is not pointing to the 4 elements meditation related to the preparatory practices of Vipassana but simply an understanding that has arisen. Om.

  • What purification mantra did you talk about that can give you a cracked voice and stuff?

  • The purification mantra is called the Vajrasattva vows and an equally powerful one in Hinduism is Om Namah Shivaya. I show the Vajrasattva Vows in chant form while I play harmonium to show (one form of) the pacing for Om Namah Shivaya.

  • I've tried the Om mantra...though i preffer not using ANY mantra...that way you can focus on your breathing and relax more...atleast it's like that for me.
