Finally Macedonian was another Greek dialect wikipedia clearly states that. There isnt much proof of the ancient Macedonian language but letters that have been found in ancient macedonian were Greek thus indicating that the Macedonians spoke Greek. The larnax of Philip that was discovered in Vergina in Greece about 10 years ago has ancient Macedonian writing on it and i was able to read it since im Greek, and ancient macedonian was Greek just like athenian and Spartan dialects.

Furthemore if you are speaking about a Greek state or kingdom you cannot call them Greeks cause if you do you will be talking about al the Greek states and kingdoms. So if you want to talk about the Greeks who fought in the Peloponesean war you will be talking about Athenians and Spartans. If you want to talk about the Greeks who stared their campaign against the Persian Empire you will be talking about the Macedonians thats why the historians call them spartans or Macedonians and not Greeks
