I replaced the colson wheel with a 3" roller blade wheel instead because it is harder and shouldn't wear as fast. I was having problems with the colson wheels coming apart at high RPM after running for a while because the softened too much. I expected the roller blade wheel to be so hard that it didn't get enough grip on the shell but was pleasantly surprised to see that it gripped very well.

  • An AXI 5330/18 at 8S A123 (which is right around 30 volts). The speed controller is a Castle Creations ICE 100. I've measured currents as high as 70A at 25v on spinup so that's consuming about 2.3 horsepower. Figure with efficiencies it is probably producing right around 2 horsepower at the shell.

  • What motor are you using to spin the shell?
