@faith4094 It was in his obituary in an English paper and it wasn't said in a light to make him sound arrogant or ungrateful, just that it was a hope and aspiration of his.

@friend2allukuk Who is "they"?? Donald was so very humble; I never heard that and I'm a huge fan. He was huge in the 50's especially and the 60's- everyone knew him -( and had great success on stage in the 80's and into the 90's-) - he won the Golden Globe and an Emmy for his T.V. show - he was a leading man in most of his great movies and an incredible man and a fantastic talent - everyone said what a wonderful, kind, genuine person he was - see his A&E Biography. See my channel.

When he died a few years back they said he wanted to achieve leading man status and be a household name, well he is to me and all my household know him by name so in a small way he had his wish.

i think i love him

A master of his art. Ok I know comparisons are odious but for me Kelly bows to no one. For what it's worth I heard Astaire say on the Parkinson show (UK) that "Cagney was the greatest hoofer of them all"

@CLFTech It's from the 1954 film "There's No Business Like Show Business". It also stars Ethel Merman, Mitzi Gaynor, and Marilyn Monroe. The only downside to it is Marilyn's extreme lack of talent in this one. I've seen her in other things and thought she was alright. But in this one, she almost ruins the whole film. Thank goodness O'Connor, Gaynor, and Merman are there to make sure the film doesn't completely crash and burn!

I could watch him all day... His tapping is just... oh, I love him!

@platelets4life Because he's Donald O'Connor - the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!

How did he do the dance in the fountain without slipping?

Highly under rated and nearly forgotten, one of the best tap dancers who ever lived and frequent star both in movies and on Broadway, Donald O'Connor. In sequences with Gene Kelly, watch their "line", tightness of motion and foot speed and then ask your self again, which was truely the better tap dancer?

You are exactly correct in every way. Donald was one of the best dancers ever, and makes it look easier than others. He out shines bigger stars in every way with his angularity and remarkable technique.
