Awesome canadian band
The police and the private

Lyrics:

Get straight and wait here while I try to find the exit sign
When will you stop asking strangers, no one wants what we want
Keep one eye on the door, keep one eye on the bag
Never expect to be sure

You're working for the police and the private, the pirates and the pilots
Fingerprinted waiting for the train
The doctor, the writer, the hairdresser,
Felt up and fingerprinted waiting for the train

Lord lord mother we are all losing love
Lord listen lover we are all missing mama
Lord lord mother we are all losing love
Lord listen lover we are all missing something I don't got

There's a place that ends here I know
When they close the gates I'll cry
So tired of never sleeping
The whole world wants what we're on

Didn't make this up I learned, I learned it from a friend
My friend is coming clean, she told me
Keep one eye on the door, keep one eye on the bed
Never expect to be sure who you're working for

You're working for the police and the private, the pirates and the pilots
Fingerprinted waiting for the train
The doctor, the writer, the garbage collector
Felt up and fingerprinted waiting for the train

Lord lord mother we are all losing love
Lord listen lover we are all missing mama
Lord lord mother we are all losing love
Lord listen lover we are all missing mama
Lord lord mother we are all losing love
Lord listen lover we are all missing mama
Lord lord mother were all losing love
Lord listen lover we are all missing love
Got to get out
Got to get to you, the orphanage is closing in an hour

  • is it about drugs???? "i learned it from a friend..my friend is coming clean..never expect to be sure.." like everybody could be on something? people that u wouldn't expect? police. private. pirates. pilots. doctors. writers. garbage collectors.

  • @wouldulistentome Well i think its just about ppl arent all good even if they seems like so you cant be sure of knowing ppl corectly...but i dun know your point can make sense

  • Metric is absolutely amazing. My friend just showed me their stuff a month ago and I'm hooked. I have their fantasies CD and its amazing. I just found some of their older stuff, like this and I love it too. Emily Haines' voice rocks

  • @Jan4tin Thanks for uploading ^w^

  • @wouldulistentome I believe it is about prostitution. "Never expect to be sure... who you're working for." "Keep one eye on the door, keep one eye on the bed." "you're working for the police and the private, pirates and the pilots, 'felt up and fingerprinted' waiting for the train" "We are all missing mama." Atleast that's my synopsis.

  • @wouldulistentome why you made a comment about this being a drug song and left out "so tired of never sleeping, the whole wold wants what we're on" is strange. but that aside i sure hope a drug user isn't going to pick up an orphan lol

  • @Nonameisworking The orphanage could be rehab, a place that takes in the unwanted.

  • @wouldulistentome I believe it has to do with a prostitute if you think about it. The ending says "Got to get to you, the orphanage is closing in an hour" It could have been an accidental pregnancy through prostitution and she sent the baby there. Although what you said also makes tons of sense with "The whole world wants what we're on"

  • I love this song but the ending is my favorite part. It makes me imagine floating through space.
