Healthcare reform is a hot-button issue these days, but few people are looking below the surface. If they took a closer look, they'd realize that the pharmaceutical industry, which has been a staunch supporter of the GOP for decades, has all of a sudden started praising President Obama. Like most issues, if you just follow the money, you'll find out why they now love the president and the Democrats in Congress. Mike Papantonio of Air America's Ring of Fire talks about this relationship, which has turned healthcare reform into nothing more than a free ride for the pharmaceutical industry.

  • politician =puppet of big business

  • This is the granddaddy whopper of them all. Obama wants to stand up and pretend to be fighting "for the little guy" against big business because it makes for great press, when in fact some of them SUPPORT him. Business and gov't support each other, but it's in the interest of each to downplay and deny it. This is an ENORMOUS and extremely damaging lie.

  • is this all true? damn i thought obama's health reform would make US health care more like Canada's. guess not...

  • Oh and by the way, Bush is the one that wouldn't let people go over the border into Canada to get their prescriptions. Remember the debate with Kerry where that was brought up. Bush said we shouldn't be able to go to Canada to get our drugs because we don't know what we are getting. Canada is not a 3rd world country so I don't know what Bush was thinking.

  • What about Bush and his republican buddies? What the heck did they do about health care? Nothing. The republicans think everything is fine as long as the rich can pay their medical bills. Who cares about the middle class or poor who can't pay for their medical bills. At least Obama is trying but the republican's block everything he tries to do.

  • Obama is keeping regulations on pharm companies the same regarding production. So many companies are already LOSING money on new drugs. It costs on avg. a billion to get a new drug out from start to finish. So many have not netted nearly that much. So of course they are going to favor not being taxed and gutted on the reform. If you want to keep getting new therapeutic drugs that make a difference in people's quality of life, leave pharma alone stupid pap attack.

  • i'm not even a repulican, in fact i lean left 80% of the time. but i'm not so blinded i don't know when i'm being duped. obama has already broken many of his important promises...lobbyist revolving door, leaving iraq and afghanistan, under regulated gm bailouts that screwed retirees and sent jobs overseas, and now backing down on his health care plan. haven't heard anything about college rebates. seriously, this is not going well.

  • Keep apologizing for Obama, soon we will have more debt that we can even calculate and an socialist economy that has no way of paying our way out of it.

    God help us.

  • This is messed up.

  • Obama is just another cowardly blue-dog Democrat, just as greedy as the other "liberals" in government. There are no liberals in our government. In the words of Bill Maher, we've got one party that's center-right and another that's just insane.
