Coventry City Council threw their weight behind a St Georges Day Celebration with a difference. Along with the traditional entertainments, there was dance from other cultures that make up the modern diverse city that is Coventry.
The crowd watched in amazement as two armies did battle in Coventry's Lower Precinct on Thursday 23 April to celebrate St George's Day 2009.
The day started off with Punch and Judy shows, as well as local folk band 'Four in a bar' performing quintessentially English music with lots of dancing. The crowds were given a bell to be part of the fun.
Suddenly, from out of the mist two armies emerged to do battle. The Knights v's the Dragon Heads. The armies will clash, cross words and cross swords, a maiden was kidnapped and a cyber battle ensued. Did St George come out victorious?
Deputy Leader, Cllr Kevin Foster said "This years event was very different from those in the past and was aimed to e a memorable celebration of our patron saints day. The event, called 'Our bit of England' had the traditional dragon slaying, but also be celebrated the rich diversity of Coventry today.'
