I don't really know whether or having two versions of this song is a good, but I think this version is a bit sadder, kind of bittersweet (despite ending on a major chord) and well, I've been sad lately so I've been playing it a bit.

Hopefully you guys will like it like the pop version. For more info on the only thing I can do best (that's music, by the way), you can go to my myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/aaronjchan. Enjoy?

Lyrics: D. Levithan/A. Chan
Music: A. Chan

Almost Here

There is a once, when I never think twice
You give me that boy, you give me that
There is a kind that is much more than nice
You give me that boy, you give me that

And when I turn around the music's always playing
Spilling in the air without a sound
For all the days that I've been blinded by the sun
And staring at the safety of clouds

Chorus:

'Cuz everytime I see you all the pieces fit together
And there are parts of me I want made clear
Though I've always distanced myself from everyone that I know
I let you get so near
And I can't believe we're almost here

There is a go that turns into a stay
You give me that boy, you give me that
There is a dream which goes its own way
You give me that boy, you give me that.

And when I turn around the music's always playing
Spilling in the air without a sound
For all the days that I've been blinded by the sun
And staring at the safety of clouds

Chorus

I hold onto your memory as I float through another day
When the time comes and we have to part
I know you're always with me on the way.

Chorus

When we lie under the stars I feel like nothing matters
And I'm still wond'ring how you got here
As you take another breath of paper flowers caught for you
I find it's crystal clear
And I can't believe
No I can't believe we're almost here
We're finally... here.

  • Constructive criticism!

Your voice didn't sound as good on this as your other videos - off day? Regardless, I kind of feel that your voice is reaching its limits during the verse - it seems like it's almost too low for you to get it consistently. Also, some parts sound like you're not sure what note to sing... I understand that this version may not be in its final stage.

Other than that, I do think this version is more bittersweet, but if one pays attention to the lyrics in the original...

  • Yeah, I realize I don't sound as good as the other video... I'm beginning to think maybe that one was a fluke, haha. As for the low notes, I guess I was trying to sing louder to get more of my voice than the piano (since the piano is way louder than I can sing) and I pushed my voice too much? I dunno.

    Thanks though, oh loyal "fan".

  • Aww.

    I love it.

I have to agree that your voice isn't at it's greatest here, but the way you executed it got to me anyway. <3

  • This is really touching. I always tried to imagine this song while I read BMB, and your adaptation is perfect! So pretty.

  • Amaaaaazing. i like this one even more than the original, and i dunno wot these people r on about, ur voice sounds great! :¬)

  • Sound quality is better on this one. Lovely.

  • wow this version IS really sadder than the other...good job!=)

  • ... then one can see how sad the lyrics are and get past the "poppiness" (albeit only slightly) of the original version.
