A Billion Starving People

A message from Keith Green recorded shortly before his death.

I answered God's call to be a missionary 20 years ago and the music and message of Keith Green played a role in that life-changing decision. I uploaded this recording of one of Keith's last songs with some pictures from the mission field as a sort of tribute. Hope it blesses someone... As missionaries to abandoned and orphaned children, our family has had the joy and privilege to see hundreds of children (many pictured) rescued from the streets of the developing world. I, too, find it hard to turn away...

Why does this video have to be religious? It's so stupid. We would actually have a much better chance of feeding, clothing, sheltering, etc everyone in the world if we didn't have religion. Praying to an invisible imaginary friend in the sky all day will do nothing to save these people. To save humanity, you have to remove the monetary system (bc money FORCES disparity. Money is debt, the goal is to make profit and profit requires there to be scarce resources and unequal distribution).

@goldensleeves I have visted many countries (more than 80 now) as a relief and development specialist. Never in the history of humanity have more people given of themselves sacrificially to feed, clothe, and educate the poor than the great compassionate movements of Christianity. In the poorest countries on earth you will find hospitals, schools, universities, feeding centers, clinics, and churches established by Christians at great cost to themselves with no profit or prestige accrued.

@josycal It is important to understand it is people (not a god) who are often under pressure of christian communities that often encourages such acts of generosity. Yet, people should not need to believe in an invisible being to see that we all can and should solve these problems. If there was an invisible man in the sky who was omni-loving, I don't think these innocent people would be starving in the first place. Also, religious belief contributed to MASSIVE suffering throughout history

@goldensleeves Christian belief is directly linked to charitable giving and by a huge measure. Never forget that in the 20th century entire nations took your advice and made societies completely devoid of the Invisible God--churches were closed, missionaries driven out, religious org disbanded. What happened--death and destruction.  More than 169 million murders, horrific genocide. Nothing has been more destructive than the atheistic societies proved to be.

@goldensleeve Jesus is not an imaginary friend, He is real and wants to reveal Himself to You too. Human Religion is the worst thing on Earth...Never mix Jesus with human religion. Keith Green was a Genuine Christian with a heart full of love for Jesus and for the poor..This song invites us to Act in the visible history The Love Jesus placed in our hearts,to pray is not wasted time...NO! is to recieve more strenght and inspiration to ACT more and more.

Just a comment to keep things in perspective: A UN report stated that the estimated amount of money to feed, clothe, and educate the world's poorest children is less than the amount of money spent each year by evangelical Christians on pet food and vet care. Overcrowding, contraception, or corporations are not the source of this problem. It can be solved in large part by the compassion of God's people if they will just care enough to give.

The solutions offered by any thoughtful missionary are designed to be sustainable. That means the solution must empower the individual to help himself. This is what we do. Only part of it is planting churches and bringing the love and grace of Christ to them. We have seen thousands of lives changed this way--physically, socio-economically and spiritually. This is what Christ calls us to do.

this is what happens when we have world trade. supply your own people with food before you sell it to another fucking country,stock up food for your own people. if every country grow food for their OWN POEPLE instead of for profit (only to be waisted as leftover garbage at fast food and grocery stores), every country will have food for their own people. simple. see the movie "End Of Poverty?" via Hulu
